Welcome on the skate-IN European Championships 2008-homepage to all the skate-fans, all the active speedskaters, pressmen and everybody who is interested in the European Championships in Gera!

The highlight of the German speedskating-year 2008 are the European Championships in Gera. From July 20th to 27th the fastest European speedskaters will fascinate the spectators.

On this homepage we inform in association with the German federation (DRIV) about the current developments in the scene, about the athletes, the competitions and about all the topics around speedskating. As well on national as on international level we would like to give you an understanding of the esprit of speedskating and join in the European Championships.

First practical test for the German national team

On the coming weekend (26. / 27.04.) the 30th  international speed skating criterion is taking place in Groß Gerau. This is the first comparison of strength with international competitors for the German national team.  In the high classed starting fields of the active and junior classes, the German skaters can gain their first advantages to secure European Championship participation. Arnaud Chiquel, the national team trainer for the ladies and men composed preliminary teams which will represent Germany on the coming weekend. In the ladies’ team Sabine Berg, Franziska Neuling, Lisa Kaluzni and Tina Strüver will compete against their rivals. In the men’s team, Toni Deubner, Albrecht Döring, Dennis Dressel, Nico Wieduwilt, Boris Hahn, Pascal Ramali, Viktor Wilking, Etienne Ramali and Patrick Täubrecht will be nominated for this weekend.
